It usually does...: ...but not always. Especially if the tooth became non-vital recently. The swelling can be caused by a periodontal pocket, which can be tested with a periodontal probe. A fracture may also go undetected. If your dentist has difficulty determining the health of the tooth, please see an endodontist. Radiographs do not reveal everything...

Yes: If the root canal was done less than six weeks ago it may still be healing, however if a root is cracked the tooth is hopeless. A cracked or split root can be very hard to identify and will not heal. Or if there is also a periodontal problem that needs to be addressed.

Crown type: Every dentist has preferred types of crowns they feel best working with.  I love working with pressed e-max.  They are very strong and gentle to opposing teeth.  In my hands they fit and look amazing, however another dentist may not feel as comfortable and prefer gold or a pfm (porcelain fused to metal). They type of crown that is used also depends on the condition of the tooth and tissue.

Teeth wear : Daily. Restored teeth need dental materials that are similar to natural teeth to minimize wear issues. There are many good choices now days. Porcelain crowns in the past are credited with significant wear on opposing teeth if the bite is not meticulously designed. Grinding at night is also a major issue. Discuss materials, your bite, and wear w your dentist.

No Pain Crown: If the gums around the tooth supporting the crown is still raw, e.g. Due to crown lengthening, it should be better in 3 days if done with a laser-depending on the condition. If pain is coming from the tooth and is still tender to temperature and pressure  after 3 days, call your dentist.

Tooth ache?: Sensitivity in a tooth with brand new crown is almost normal, it could last, weeks even months. I am talking about a slight sensitivity, that will go away. This different thna paine, and this is bad news, mostable if you need to take  over the counter pain medicines. In that case tooth needs root canal treatment. Ok?

Call a dentist: You may have to have both post and crown replaced, but an examination will determine that for sure.

Absolutely: If it is on a tooth and not an implant, then , yes. The temporary crown protects the underlying tooth structure and maintains the space between the teeth and against the tooth in the other jaw that chews against this one.
