Porcelain crowns in the past are credited with significant wear on opposing teeth if the bite is not meticulously designed. Grinding at night is also a major issue. Crown abrasion: Teeth opposing porcelain crowns can be abraided faster than those opposing natural teeth. This is "wear of the opposing teeth". Teeth have a hardness of about 435 on the diamond 1000 hardness scale. Dental gold about 465. Porcelain is about 875. This is a big factor in the molar areas and the front teeth with people with steep anterior bites.
