Pain relief: Would start with ibuprofen at an appropriate dose and then a nasal steroid spray use as nasocort 2 sprays am and pm for 3-4 days then just in am at same dose
also would see ENT   asap for further evaluation

Serous otitis: This could be serous otitis (fluid behind your ear drum) or eustachian tube dysfunction.  If you have fluid in your ear your hearing should be significantly decreased in the ear, and when you hum you should hear it louder in the affected ear.  Eustachian tube dysfunction means the tube between your ear and nose is inflamed or narrow.  I have seen sudden nerve hearing loss present as well.  See ent.

Possible: Long before there were antibiotics ear infections commonly resolved with the ear drum bursting and the healing. In acute ear infection, withain and hearing loss, treatment with oral antibiotics, usually clears infection before ear drum would perforate or burst.

Avoid water in ear: A hole in an ear drum (perforated tympanic membrane) will normally heal on its own.  It is very important to not allow water to get into an ear with a perforated eardrum.  You should wear an ear plug (or cotton coated with vaseline) in your ear with the perforated TM whenever you shower, bath, wash your hair, or go swimming.  Ask your doctor to look at your ear and let you know when it is healed.

: Yes. Once an eardrum ruptures the site of the repair is not as strong. However, a second perforation at the same site may or may not occur. The type of germ and speed at which it replicates &amp; draws in pus creating middle ear pressure is the main factor. Some ear infections are viral and self heal without damage, some bacteria are just slow growers. Have it evaluated either way.

A perforated ear drum--with an ear infection-- will often present with a yellowish, pussy discharge from the ear---although a sudden decrease in ear pain may be the first sign of a perforation.

Ear infection: The eardrum itself is very innervated.  In other words the ear drum is very sensitive.  When the ear drum bursts it is usually from a suppurative otitis media.  White blood cells (pus) are brought into the area to fight the infection (bacteria, or virus).  The ear drum bulges and then will break-  perforate.  The bulging and perforation are painful but once it perforated the pain usually improves.

Pain, hearing issue: In acute otitis there is pain, decrease hearing in kids fever, vomiting and sometimes abdominal pain. In chronic form it decrease in hearing might be the only symptom.
