A member asked:

Is the pain from an ear infection from your eardrum bursting? why is ur balance so bad when you get one? what is the fluid that comes out of ur ear?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Ear infection: The eardrum itself is very innervated. In other words the ear drum is very sensitive. When the ear drum bursts it is usually from a suppurative otitis media. White blood cells (pus) are brought into the area to fight the infection (bacteria, or virus). The ear drum bulges and then will break- perforate. The bulging and perforation are painful but once it perforated the pain usually improves.
