A member asked:

My eardrum perforated a few years ago when i had a bad ear infection. i think i have another ear infection right now. because my eardrum perforated in the past, is it more likely to do it again?

Yes. Once an eardrum ruptures the site of the repair is not as strong. However, a second perforation at the same site may or may not occur. The type of germ and speed at which it replicates & draws in pus creating middle ear pressure is the main factor. Some ear infections are viral and self heal without damage, some bacteria are just slow growers. Have it evaluated either way.

Since you had a perforation in the past from an ear infection than you could have another one if you don't seek treatment for this one. See your ENT doctor for treatment now.
