Need to be examined: Ultimately, a medical professional needs to examine the ear to determine if there is either of the above. A perforated ear drum--with an ear infection-- will often present with a yellowish, pussy discharge from the ear---although a sudden decrease in ear pain may be the first sign of a perforation.
