Healing cap: There will be a cover placed over the implant site called a 'healing cap.'  it is essentially a man-hole cover for the gums to protect the implant (and gums) during the healing phase.  If you choose not to use a flipper (during the healing phase) then, for all intents and purposes, you're choosing to have a space in your smile until the crown is completed.

Implant movement: There should be absolutely no movement of the implant fixture during the time period when it is integrating with the surrounding bone.

Less than....: In the long term,  a dental implant, restored with a custom abutment &amp; crown will be much less costly &amp; NOT damaging to adjacent teeth (whereas bridges require adjacent teeth to be trimmed down).  At age 39 you need to think long term. Talk to your dentist for their exact cost.

They're great: Provide you with the best means of replacing missing teeth, and are the closest Dentistry has come to providing a tooth-like substitute.  As long as your bone/gum tissues are healthy, Implants/crowns are the leading edge restorations.  They must be cared for just like natural teeth (brushing/flossing).  They are expensive, but in the long run worth the cost.

Implant process: This is not regular dentistry. Implants are placed into bone, integrate and then are restored with 'caps' bridges, etc. With good bone height quality and quantity, about 4-5 months. Ad 100 days or more if more new bone needs to be grown in your mouth.

Teeth could shift: Teeth that shift will not occlude correctly, resulting in an inefficient bite. This will put additional stress on your other teeth. The shifting, tilted teeth can end up with periodontal bone loss. Supererupted antagonist teeth may result in occusal prematurities. Consider replacing the missing tooth.

So many factors: Is the bone height and bone width is adequate in the surgical area?  Is there an infection?  How is your periodontal health? Is the implant stable upon placement?  Is there a complete coverage of the surgical site ater surgery?  Do you stop using bisphosphonates for at least 3 months prior to implant surgery? And even with all these factors, the implant can still heal!
