: Yes, you can pass the virus to your partner through oral sex although you are asymptomatic. Risk is higher with infected male partner as in your case. With suppressive therapy, risk of transmission is reduced by approximately one-half in one study. Without suppressive therapy, 10% of sex partner will be infected within one year and 70% of the transmission occurs when there are no active lesions.

You might.: Herpes simplex virus is generally transmitted from intimate mucosa to mucosa contact, usually sexually transmitted.  While various antiviral drugs can reduce the number and severity of outbreaks in the sufferer, they do little to prevent transmission of the virus. I would say 4% is a very low guestimate.  If therer are open lesions present, the chance of transmission greatly increases.

HSV2: Antiviral medications do not cure HSV2 but reduce outbreaks, symptoms and shedding.of the virus. However you can still transmit the infection to your sexual partner even in the absence of an eruption with unprotected sex.

i have hsv2 and am pregnant. i take daily suppressive valtrex prior to pregnancy as i am imunnocompromised. is it safe to continue this medication in pregnancy?

: Valtrex is often continued during pregnancy and has a good record of safety in this regard. If you are concerned consult your obstetrician

: To my knowledge we still only have three medications Acyclovir, Famciclovir and Valacyclovir.

how likely is it to pass on anything, if i came back with hsv2 equivocal results after testing neg 4 months prior (1 new partner between test), if i want to be intimate with a new female partner, would she be at risk of anything? what if i take meds?

: HSV is extremely contagious, and once contracted is possible of transmission even without visible ulcerative lesions. Treatment can hasten resolution of active lesions (antivirals like acyclovir, Valtrex are very effective), however the virus exists inside the nucleus of cells, and cannot be eliminated completely.

: In the research on valacyclovir protection, in couples in which one person had HSV2, with no condoms or drug, just avoiding sex during outbreaks:  average transmission about once per 1,000 episodes of unprotected vaginal sex. With condoms plus valayclovir, a lot lower chance than that. Still, your partner(s) should know you have HSV2 and participate in a decision whether or not to have sex.

Treatment : If you are breAking out even on appropriate dose perhaps something else wrong with your immune system.  It would bevwirth seeing your doctor.  Thyroid problem would be one thought.

i use 500mg valacyclovir irregularly (i.e. not on a daily basis but maybe 2-3 times a week). i'm getting frequent hsv2 outbreaks. could irregular use lead to frequent outbreaks?

Maybe not herpes: What does "frequent" mean? Genital herpes due to HSV2 doesn't recur more often than once a month, and even that is unusual; every 6-12 weeks is most common. Symptoms more frequently than that is caused by something else, regardless of how often you take valacyclovir. Stop VCV for a while, then see your doctor for evaluation and probable HSV test while you're having these same symptoms. Good luck.

recent exposure to hsv2 didnt know she was pos condom broke on one ocassion immediately stopped put on newone i know i should get checked but only been 2 weeks what do i do just wait  when should i go get checked and where?

Herpes testing: Testing for HSV-2 is indicated when you have a partner who is positive for HSV-2. Are you having symptoms? I can have you tested &amp; treated. I can also have you tested for HIV and other STDs. I recommend you have your partner get testing as well if she is unsure. I can also prescribe Valacyclovir for her to reduce the risk of transmission. I treat patients in New York State only. Good luck.
