In the research on valacyclovir protection, in couples in which one person had HSV2, with no condoms or drug, just avoiding sex during outbreaks: average transmission about once per 1,000 episodes of unprotected vaginal sex. With condoms plus valayclovir, a lot lower chance than that. Still, your partner(s) should know you have HSV2 and participate in a decision whether or not to have sex.
