Yes: Benefiber can be a good choice for obtaining more soluble fiber in the diet as an attempt to treat IBS. It is generally better to begin slowly and gradually increase the amount of fiber supplementation over the course of weeks to months. It is also important to increase your fluid intake when you increase your fiber. This works in some patients with IBS. Good luck.

what causes food allergies? i keep developing food allergies, and my doctors have no explanations. i also have ibs-c. is leaky gut a real disease? could it be causing my problems? (all i eat is fiber)

First, you need to: make sure what you are experiencing are true allergies. Many people have food intolerances--nausea, pain, diarrhea--but often food allergy also involves hives, itchy skin, shortness of breath indicating an activation of your immunologic system. Having IBS leads me to favor the food intolerance diagnosis. Leaky gut, as you suggest, isn't a recognized diagnosis.Fiber is good, but more balance needed

is occasional tiniest amount of mucus in stool normal? i likely have ibs-c as per my doctor. constipation fixed with water and fiber. i finally go more then i ever have in years.still notice odd piece of mucus(or undigested food) i'm not sure. normal?

: A small amount of mucous in the stool is not unusual and can be seen with normal bowel movements. It can also be a sign off inflammation, which may be present with chronic constipation. Sounds like the treatment is helping. GI can certainly help with this treatment. Good luck!

Fiber conflict: Fiber, of both water soluble and water insoluble variety, provides health benefits. Fiber accelerates how quickly food transits through the gut. Fiber adds bulk to stool ; improves bowel regularity. Fiber can be used as an adjunct to weight loss by filling you up without excess calories ; in so doing restricting fat intake. Too much fiber can make you gassy ; increase stool volume--hence conflict.

IBS: Chia seeds and flax seeds are good for fiber and they do have omega 3's which help to heal the gut.   You should have this at least every day to 3 times per day.  Please make sure you take a high quality probiotic that has at least 20-80 billion cfu's with 6-14 strains of bacteria.

Speak with your GI doc that diagnosed your ibs, since he/she will know your history better.

On the contrary: Fiber is considered healthy. Average adult should consume about 20-30 gms fiber each day. It helps regulate the bms, makes it easier to go and helps against diverticulosis too. Constipation and diarrhea, commonly associated with ibs, both reapond well to fiber. I recommend taking it on a regular basis.
