PTSD: Many psychiatric disorders impair judgment and reasoning. It would be incorrect for you to think that ptsd would automatically cause a violent act. Many people with ptsd have no history of violence.

is there a difference between tapering from anti- psychotic medication that is ir and xr? if so how does one taper off of an xr tablet to minimize sfx

Yes XR is easier: Immediate release (IR) medications go into the bloodstream so there is more chance of side effects when you stop them.  Extended release (XR) medications are released more slowly over time which means they will also leave your body more slowly which decreases the chance of side effects.  However, you can not break an XR pill so to taper off you will a small number of decreasing dose pills.

Schizoaffective?: This can be a chronic remittent illness .  Medication compliance , decreese in stress level , refraining ifrim all illicit drug use and supportive therapy  can help in keeping him hopefully stable.

Bipolar Disorder.:  Psychosis can occur with Bipolar I Disorder and there must have been at least one period of elevated, expansive, or irritable mood lasting a week or longer. One does not develop psychosis with Bipolar II Disorder &amp; the period of elevated mood does not last as long.

No: While it depends to some degree upon the condition that the antipsychotic is treating, you do not generally have to taper one  before beginning another. In the case of going from Risperidone to clozaril, (clozapine) as Clozaril (clozapine)  has to be titrated, usually you would remain on  Risperdal until on enough Clozaril (clozapine)  to  likely control symptoms. Then you would begin lowering the Risperidone gradually.

: A person functions best when they have adequate restorative sleep, good balanced nutrition, are free from physical or mental illness and work in a stable comfortable setting. Having a focus disorder (ADHD) with mental illness is common. Working on the existing issues and making sure all the other factors are at their best is a way to work through this.

Then review each at www.drugs.com for side effects. Most of all, discuss your concerns w/treating physician. But in general, one dose shouldn't have long lasting effects.
