why have my teeth moved even though i always wear my retainer?

Improper placement: A retainer that is not inserted fully into place will allow the teeth to shift slightly. Once that happens, it never really fits right, and the teeth continue to shift. Although the patient is "wearing" the retainer, it is not doing it's job. See your orthodontist regarding options to correct the situation.

i had a brace 5 years ago and my teeth moved because i didn't the retainer long enough. if i had another brace how long would i wear it for?

~8 mos: Depends how much relapse has occured.  Once they are re-straightened you should be wearing a retainer EVERY night. Sometimes a permanent wire retainer can be placed so you don't have to take it in and out but cleaning is difficult with a permanent wire in place.

if one of my bottom front teeth moved forward after wearing braces and retainers, is there a way to correct only that tooth? and if the root of that tooth is already short, is there a way to correct the tooth without making its root shorter?

Yes: Have your orthodontist have a look &amp; give you options.  May be as simple as wearing your retainer.

i had braces taking off and now teeth have moved back. i wore retainer day and  night constantly.  is there a reason they moved back . thanks ?

Ortho relapse: When relapse happens even with retainer wear it's usually very easy to restraighten the teeth. Then a different type of retainer system should be used than was used first time around

No: A retainer, if worn as directed, prevents tooth movement.  Clear plastic tray retainers are not really adjustable.  Your teeth may have to be realigned, with braces, clear aligners, or retainer-like wire/plastic adjustable appliances.  Please see an Orthodontic Specialist for best, most effective, least intrusive, most cost effective, solution to your problem.

my top permanent retainer is loose in the middle it moves now my tooth next to my front tooth is moving forward & upward how can i get it straightened?

Don't wait: The longer you wait, the harder it will be to straighten the wandering tooth.  Return to Orthodontist who placed the "permanent" (as you see, "permanent" is not a precise term) retainer, or seek immediate care with another specialist Orthodontist.  Treatment choices depend on nature and severity of the malocclusion.

hi doc, i got my braces removed last year in november but now its still i have a front tooth that it still loose. it was alway loose, even when i got my i got my braces off, i had to wait a week for retainers, and that tooth already moved a bit?

Most likely yes: Do not wear this appliance.. it will cause more harm than do good. You'll need to make an appointment with your orthodontist... either the appliance can be adjusted to fit properly, or you'll need a new one.

Oops: If teeth have shifted you're only seeing the tip of the iceberg.  If change is minor retainer adjustment may help, but not entirely fix, the problem.  Get to orthodontic specialist asap before problem gets worse.  If problem severe enough, re-treatment may be necessary, and new result not as optimal as previous result.  Don't wait, call now.

Yes: Teeth move all the time, with or without retainers.  Retainers minimize movement.  Not wearing them encourages destabilization.  After all the time, effort, and money to create a great smile, it would be a shame to test the system to find out just how much damage can be done in a short time.
