Yes: A mouthguard is effective in preventing biting oral tissues while sleeping. The mouthguard covers the teeth in the upper or lower arch, or both. 
They can be custom made by a dentist or they can be obtained at a drug store or sporting goods store (athletic mouthguard). 
An exam by a dentist can help in deciding which one to use.

Check with dentist: Tongue, cheek biting indicates problems of occlusion, the way teeth fit together during function such as eating and swallowing.  It is the swallowing where teeth of opposing arch occluded against each other and where tongue and cheek biting may occur.  Treatment included occlusal adjustment (selective grinding) and/or biteguard (in extreme case).

: When certain teeth are out of alignment, one may bite into the tongue often. High stress level or anxiety can cause tongue bite unknowingly. When you bite your tongue during eating or talking, it may be due to imperfect coordination through the pons, part of midbrain. Decreasing distraction will improve the coordination and reduce the tongue bite. Hope it helps.

the last few months i keep accidentally biting my tongue, sides and front, when chewing or talking. i want to find a way to prevent it because sometimes i injure it pretty bad. everything looks the same, teeth and tissue.why might this be happening?

Speech Therapy!: Are you a very fast talker/chewer?  If so, slowing down would be helpful.  It's so darn hard though b/c after you bite, the tissue swells, which makes it easier to bite again, and so on...if its really bothersome to you, you may consider speech therapy.  With this, your therapist can teach you maneuvers to change how your mouth moves with talking/chewing, which may help prevent your problem!

More info needed: How long have you been biting your tongue? Are you missing teeth? Do you have false teeth? Do you have sharp or malpositioned teeth? When does it happen? Please see a dentist for an evaluation.

Not necessarily: More info is needed as well as an exam. Please see your family physician. Could be anything from a habit to a malocclusion.

Depends: Get checked out, and make sure there are no B vitamin deficiencies. Also make sure you do not have food sensitivities and have enough omega 3's.

Tongue: If you think you are having an allergic reaction to something, take a benadryl (diphenhydramine) and go to the ER. If its been going on for awhile, it may be that you are chewing on the sides of your tongue and cheeks. If thats the case, gargling and ibuprofen will help but you need to see your dentist
