are plantar warts on feet and warts on hands spread via surfaces? how careful do i need to be around someone who has plantar warts on feet that walks around barefoot and will not wear socks?

: Plantar warts are likely triggered by contact with the virus on floor surfaces/in the shower/et6c. The time between initial contact with the virus &amp; detection of the wart makes an understanding of when &amp; where it was acquired hard to know with certainty. I would just wear shoes around such a person &amp; sanitize any shared shower stalls after their use.

i have what i think is a plantar wart on pad of my foot below my toes. its itchy dry skin spot, my husband got them from his sister who got hers confirmed. it looks exactly like it. we have a daughter that crawls can she get them on hands/mouth?

Yes &amp; no: Warts are caused by strains of virus that are acquired from environmental exposure. Those strains that infect the skin/foot are specific to those skin types. They do not infect the mouth. Your husband may or may not have got them from a sister or just from a contaminated floor surface. The virus does not pass easily &amp; most occurrences are random. It is not like a strep germ.

: HPV strains are selective as to where they are found. Plantar wart strains are skin surface infestations and do not travel in your blood to other sites. Plantar wart strains are also not on the list associated with a high risk of cancer.

is it true that if you've had one strain of hpv, you can't get any others? i had 2 plantar warts when i was a child and one wart on hand 2 years ago.

No: Each strain has its own characteristics and immunity gained by an infection to one does not protect you from the others. The present best protection against the std forms of hpv is a vaccine with 4 separate strains covered by material in the shot.Even then, the &gt;50 other strains of this family of viruses are unaffected.

Good question.: warts are abnormal growths that occur within the outer layers of the skin. They protrude out on non weight bearing areas and are hard and indent the skin on weight bearing areas.  Pits or holes can be a sign of too much moisture in your feet.

Unlikely: Ben, get yourself a good history and physical exam and if the cause isn't clear, get to a neurologist for a check for a peripheral neuropathy. Especially, for a man of your age, rule out Fabry's.

No: Foot warts are different than melanoma, and are approached differently.  Melanoma is very serious, and if you have a questionable skin lesion you should bring it to your doctor's attention immediately. Not knowing seems to be scary to you now.  Why not have it checked out and [likely] get started on appropriate care.

Warts-no fluid: warts are quite solid. Fluid filled slin lesions ( vessicle) can be from blistering or a condition called hyperhidrosis- call for an examination.

the skin is peeling between my toes, i have dots underneath the skin on the  heel of my foot. i don't think it is plantar warts as the skin is smooth?

Athletes foot: This sounds like athletes foot which is caused by a fungus.  I recommend you see a podiatrist for treatment.
