Try Yoga: at the basic level. It's probably the best way to stretch and there are various YouTube videos that can teach you how to start and you should be able to tolerate it well with your back.

Could be almost: Anything, from diverticulitis, kidney stones, cancer of colon, intermittent incarceration of your hernia.  Impossible to tell without tests.  You need to see a surgeon asap.

Not related: Hernia in a stomach known as hiatal hernia is unrelated to abdominal ventral hernia. Venttal hernia is due to weakness in abdominal wall and hital hernia is a part of stomach herniating above the diaphragm.  They are of several types and treatment is depending on the severity of symptoms.

i'm 4 months post mesh ventral hernia repair and now my abdomen gets hard  on my left side and causes pain in my left rib cage. is this normal?

Not clear : Where the hernia repair was on the abdomen vis a vis your pain.  I recommend calling your surgeon.  If you have severe pain, bowel obstruction, or fevers, you might want to go to the er.

See the surgeon: When you have had recent surgery, a new pain in the same area has to be considered to be related to the surgery until shown not to be.  Sometimes, post-operative adhesions can do this; sometimes swelling or fluid in the area of the surgery.  In any case, you need to see the surgeon who did the procedure so that he/she can evaluate the problem and treat it properly.

Aerobic Exercise: Weight loss is primarily related to reducing caloric intake and increasing aerobic activity, in that order of importance.  Neither of those should be affected by the presence of a ventral hernia.  While building muscle mass may improve one's metabolic rate, this needs to be balanced by the effect that heavy lifting has on the hernia.  Have you considered hernia repair?

One visable now ?: It is common for infants & toddlers to have loose belly muscles and a ridgelike outpouching may be visable in the middle from the breastbone to the naval+. These muscles need to be loose in pregnancy if nutrients are to move thru the placenta to the inside.As babies get more mobile & start doing "crunches" thru normal activity the muscles tighten & the ridge disappears. If not, it can be fixed >4y.

i have a ventral hernia, is it o.k to do mild set ups? im am a 77 year old male , i don't know how are  when   i got it the hernia , but it does not bother me and gives me no pain. by mild set ups i mean raising my upper body 6 to 8 inches off the floor.

The : The ventral hernia is a split in the abdominal muscles that run up the middle of your stomach. Hernias there are pretty common. They don't have to be fixed unless they are painful but they do look odd when you do a sit-up. The problem is they are certainly made worse by increasing the pressure inside the abdomen like when you do a sit up or strain down like you are passing a bowel movement. But a reasonable approach is if it doesn't hurt and it isn't getting bigger then you could probably do sit-ups . Just like all exercises, don't overdo it!
