i noticed a painless lump on my back (beside my spine) several years ago. just the other day, i noticed it again but seems to be bigger. what is it?

Lump: Have it seen by a doc. Thats number one. It is probably an inclusion cyst from the skin, possibly a fatty tumor underneath the skin, called lipoma, but they typically are not firm. Again, have it seen!

Cyst or not: Most commonly this would be a "lipoma", which is a lump of abnormal fat, or a sebaceous cyst, which is kind of chronic inflammation from old trauma. An abscess could also be a cause. If not enlarging and not painful, red or draining, safe to watch. Treatment is surgery to remove it, which is low risk, minor, and outpatient procedure.

Just a what?: It has no relationship to scoliosis unless in some way it connects to the spine, such as an epidural abscess. In that case you would be very sick as well as fever &amp; weight loss. It does sound like a sebaceous cyst.

i have had a lump on my back for about 5 years now. it is on my upper back directly on top of where my spine is. my doctor thought it was a lipoma 5 years ago. should i be worried? i get numbness in my legs and fell the other day when i got out bed

Unlikely related: You may very well have two different problems, the lump (lipoma) on your upoer back , and the leg numbness, which may be the cause you fell when you got out of bed lately. Kindly revisit your doctor for evaluation and possible referral to a neurologist, good luck

Lump on spine: your description is too vague. But all lumps should be examined by a physician. It can be a simple subcutaneous lipoma to something more ominous. Best is to have someone look at it.

Maybe: If you are referring to the where the neck joins the trunk, yes. The lowest bone in the neck (c7) has a prominent spinous process, a projection where muscles attach. It is normal to be able to feel its tip. C2 is also large; it can be felt in some folks; it is just below the back of the skull.

: Lipoma most likely.  Have a Dr look at it.  This is benign.  I am assuming in is under the skin and not attached  the spine.

Depends: This would depend on the nature of the lump. I assume that you are referring to a lump that you can see on the back. If it is new and growing and painful-it needs to be checked out to make certain that it is not a tumor or infection. It is is boggy or has fluid, it needs to be checked out as it might represent a connection down into the spinal canal.
