i'm having a hysterectomy soon. will this cause menopause?

Depends on ovary: Hysterectomy is removal of uterus. If they take out your ovary (you have 2 ovaries in body) if both are removed you can have menopause. Usually they leave one ovary in during hysterectomy - if this is done for bleeding issues instead of problem with ovary like cyst etc so if you have one ovary no you would not have menopause if you removed both ovaries with uterus then yes you would have menopause.

Maybe: If your ovaries remain, they will function normally. If they are removed, you will have menopausal symptoms soon after surgery unless you start hormones.

Adjusts: First of all if you just have a hysterectomy (uterus removed) you will not go through menopause early. That only happens if both ovaries are removed as well. If you do have your ovaries removed then the menopause will be dramatic, but it will resolve in time.

Ovaries are the key: If the ovaries are left in, hysterectomy will not cause you to go into menopause.  Talk to your doctor about whether or not he or she plans to remove them, and if so, discuss the issue and make sure you are both on the same page.

what could cause me to stop producing estrogen even though i've not had a hysterectomy & gyn says i'm not in menopause but has no idea why?

Several causes: If the ovaries fail prematurely it could be one cause. Has your gyn checked your pituitary gland? Your adrenals? Your liver? Have you gotten very thin?  Theses are all areas i would suggest looking into.

Premature: menopause can alter your body's metabolism. There is some difference of opinion, but many physicians would have given you a few years of estrogen replacement therapy. Other medical problems are also possible, and you need a full evaluation with your physician.

i cry all the time and have constant anxiety for no reason?  could this be caused by menopause? i had a hysterectomy at 30 and i don't have my ovaries

Hormonal levels ?: If ovarian function was not surgically removed bilaterally at the time of hysterectomy, the function of the ovaries may now be slowing or ending, thus giving a loss of overall hormonal levels and increased menopausal symptoms of sweating.  A physician needs more history to better answer this question accurately.

Estrogen, a female hormone, helps keep vaginal tissue healthy by maintaining normal vaginal lubrication, tissue elasticity and acidity. These factors create a natural defense against vaginal and urinary tract infections. But when your estrogen levels decrease, so does this natural defense, leading to increased urinary tract infection.
