Nodules: It is harder to follow a 4.5 cm nodule since it's already so large but 0.6 mm (are you sure it's mm and not cm?) is negligible.

Accepted Answer

Yes: By definition, any enlargement of the thyroid gland is a goiter. So if the nodule is causing the thyroid to be enlarged, there is a goiter. The question is, what is the cause of the nodule? Sounds like a biopsy is in your future.

in todays us hypervascular thyroid nodule 9x8mm which is hypoechoic and internal vascularity remained the same as 2 months ago. they told me that they keep checking it for 2 years. it can be something during this time? after 2 years it will be safe?

Accepted Answer

: They do serial ultrasounds when the nodule is this small to see if it begins growing. If it begins growing, they can then biopsy it. But, if it never grows, after 2 years, by definition, it would be benign (malignant tumors begin growing in that time). Typically, they do the ultrasounds fairly frequently and then begin spacing them out a bit if there is no growth. Hopefully, it will prove benign!

i have hypervascular thyroid nodule 9x8mm on my right lobe. the past 3 days i noticed on my right the gland is swollen i see it in the mirror bigger than usual and when i touch it i feel it. what could be the cause of this?

: Hyper vascular nodules occasionally outgrow their blood supply and bleed into themselves, casing an increase in size. This is not very likely, however, given the small size of this nodule.

i made an us and found a hypervascular thyroid nodule. they found also mildly prominent submandibular lymph nodes bilaterally. on the left the node measures 5mm and on the right the node measures 6 mm. what are the nodes and should i worry on them?

: Are they talking about the glands (submadib) or lymph nodes.  Need to see US report and you to be able to help.Discuss with the Dr who ordered the US as they possess info we do not have.

: A "hypoechoic thyroid nodule with increased vascularity"  may just represent a benign thyroidal nodule if TSH is normal.  If it is "stable after repeat studies for two months", the risk of malignancy is reduced, but followup is appropriate.

: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without taking additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor and discuss if you may be depressed. Counter-intuitive as it may seem, exercise may help. Start with low intensity exercise such as walking and gradually increase the intensity as tolerated. Drink more water. Wish you good health!

: Impossible to provide a prediction of the pathology of your nodule, but sounds reasonable, based upon your description, to undergo a biopsy and provide the answers.  Your endocrinologist should be able to facilitate a surgical consult, and coordinate the future evaluation.
