Hard to say: C-reactive protein is a nonspecific marker of inflammation.  It can be elevated in any condition that has an inflammatory component like infections or arthritis.  It can also be elevated in obesity, chronic renal failure, cigarette smoking and many other apparently noninflammatory states.  So an elevated CRP doesn't really mean much without other clinical information.

Inflammation: An elevated CRP means that somewhere in your body, there is inflammation.  Smoking is one big cause of an elevated CRP in someone as young as you.  You could also easily carry a higher genetic risk for heart disease.  Get apo e  testing done.  To see if the inflammation is specifically vascular, get a lp-pla2 test done.  It shows if you have any unstable plaque. Quitting smoking will lower crp.

See a cardiologist: Hi. For us out here in internet-land having no more information than that and not knowing your case or cardiac risk factors, I think we'd all say get evaluated! What did your doc who ordered the hs-CRP say? He/she would have ordered it based on some risk factor(s) and/or perceived risk. What is your blood pressure? Is your pulse east or irregular? See your doc, and a cardiologist, if indicated.

Trials that involve measuring hs-CRP levels are  underway in an effort to better understand its role in cardiovascular events, but it is a non-specific index.
