Scalp dermatitis?: Had to tell whether this is chemical irritation/burn, or allergy to the hair dye. Both are common. Best to see a doctor. You could try an over-the-counter steroid cream (hydrocortisone), but a doctor might prescribe more effective treatment, and can confirm the diagnosis. Sometimes a reaction like this uncovers an underlying skin problem, made worse by the hair dye but needing different treatment.

Since you have more than redness or itching, I recommend that you be examined by your physician or a dermatologist to see if secondary infection is present and if so, appropriate treatment can be started. In the meantime apply warm soaks and, if possible, apply a combination of antibacterial and cortisone type cream until seen

: Find a baby shampoo free of the usual chemicals used to combat dandruff and just keep your scalp clean. This is likely a simple chemical burn, like a mild sunburn and it should self-heal if you don't aggravate it. After a week or so it should be fine.

An allergic reaction may lead to generalized itching, facial/ scalp swelling or in some severe cases to anaphylaxis.
