the past few weeks i've had off and on pain in the groin.checked w/docs.said no hernia.had ultrasnd today.couldnt tell much.just felt swelling?thghts?

Other than: knowing that you have groin pain and don't have a hernia we don't have any more of your history. It would be hard to venture a guess or to recommend treatment without having a better idea of your diagnosis / symptoms.

Lump: A hernia often has a lump associated with the area of pain. Physical exam is the best way to diagnose a groin hernia, but sometimes a variety of imaging studies are necessary depending on how bad the symptoms are. Best  place to start is with a primary care provider.

how to tell the difference between a swollen lymph node or hernia in my groin area?

Reduceable : One of the way is if you find a hole where you can push the lump back in and it go away then likely hernia. A lymph nodes feel more solid and round and can move easily from side to side up and down.

right side groin pain. how to discern if it is strain or hernia? is there a way i can tell it myself? i have felt for a bulge and couldn't feel one. felt for it while coughing and standing and couldn't feel a bulge then either?

: If symptomatic but you can't feel it in the groin area (inguinal area) or inside the scrotum when coughing or straining then likely you do not have hernia. Good luck.

No: All people are at risk for inguinal hernias.  It is a consequence of a four legged animal body design coming to walk upright.  There are risk factors, but even sedentary people can develop them.  If you are concerned, you should see your doctor and be examined.

See below: There is a possibility your hernia has recurred based on the information you have provided. Pain and a bulge at the previous hernia repair site are cardinal symptoms.  Please have a physician examine you, preferably the surgeon who performed the original hernia surgery.

Inguinal hernia: Sadly, the standard of care in today's world for a symptomatic inguinal hernia would be a surgical repair.  First, an evaluation by a trained health care professional to determine if you really have an inguinal hernia.  Then, and honest assessment of your symptoms. Pain, limitation activities, change in bowels. If the hernia is not symptomatic, there is no rush to surgery. You could try a trusse.

how do you tell the difference between an inflamed spermatic cord an a inguinal hernia?

Similar discomfort: But, the hernia will almost always have a lump or protrusion in the groin area where intra-abdominal structures herniate thru the internal inguinal ring.  An exam by a surgeon will be able to tell the difference. Be well!

i told my surgeon that my large inguinal hernia is partially reduce able but now i feel it retracts fully. do i need to tell this to surgeon prior?

Always tell: Although it will unlikely change the operative technique or approach, it is always a good idea to tell your surgeon about any change in symptoms or exam.

how can i tell if inguinal hernia is back when i never had a bulge tests didn't show it was discovered by exploratory surgery 10 yrs ago same symp now?

See your doctor.: If there is no visible evidence of a bulge, then an inguinal hernia can only be diagnosed by physical exam or by certain x-rays, such as a CAT scan. If you are having symptoms in that area, I would recommend that you see your doctor. Good luck.
