Post-op complaints: Did you have a menisectomy (removal) or a meniscal repair? - pain and swelling a month after surgery are not unheard of by any means, but it is also possible that you are overdoing it. I suggest you speak with your surgeon and/ or physical therapist about your concerns. In the meanwhile, at home, you can use rest, ice, compression, elevation, tens (if prescribed), and/or nsaids for pain & swelling.

Few days: Usually minimizing the swelling from the 
procedure is the key 
performing the procedure in an efficient
manor and minimizing the intra op 
bleeding will minimize swelling
also it is important to be off your feet for 
the first 24 hours to keep the swelling down
most of  my patient who have an arthroscopic procedure done on thursday
have their dressing changed saturday and
return to work on monday.

Everyone reacts to-: -this surgery in different ways. 1-even the same surgeon has different recover early. Things that may cause more swelling are bleeding, how much was done,  &amp; some have a tendency to swell than others, 2-not resting enough, improper use of ice, being to active. Follow Ur surgeon's protocol, in the long run your result should not B any different. Always let surgeon know of any sudden changes.

2 weeks: Typically it goes down in the first  2 weeks but it can take longer. If it persists beyond say 6 weeks then it needs to be evaluated.

i just got my meniscus repaired a month ago. it has just started popping and now its swelling. is this normal after meniscus surgery?

No;see your ortho MD: The clicking and popping sounds should be gone, and there should be minimal swelling at one month out.  In particular, you should not have NEW swelling.  You have risk for an infection.  Follow up with your surgeon ASAP.

hi i recently had surgery to repair a torn acl and remove my meniscus on feb 14th.  still have swelling and tightness.  should i be worried?

Not necessarily: It is still early, but be sure to follow up with your surgery. At this early time, this would be normal, but it is always best to be sure by keeping your follow-up appointments.

had acl &meniscus surgery 11 months ago.  knee still has some swelling and still no feeling in portion of my leg.  is this normal?

Yes, it can be: Arthroscopic acl surgery can cause some mild residual swelling w/ running etc. 11 months post-op. A small area of numbness below the kneecap if the patellar tendon was harvested is also normal.Recurrent swelling that is interfering w/ knee flexion or more numbness than described( esp.W/ meniscus repair)is not ' normal'. See your ors if so. Gl!

: If you have arthritis, then it is possible that meniscus surgery will not help.  Meniscus tears are often treated with arthroscopic surgery.  However, if you have arthritis in your knee, then this type of surgery can be much less successful.

i had meniscus surgery three month ago , why still my knee swelling and in pain and since two weeks ago  my right knee has pain.it is getting worse.

Depends: It all depends on the type of surgery and the condition of your knee.  If you have severe arthritis, then a meniscus surgery may simply have been inadequate.  If you had an actual meniscus repair (not that common), then it's possible the repair failed.  Also, it's important to rule out an infection.  You'll need to see your surgeon for further evaluation.

is it normal to have continued swelling after lateral release , meniscus repair ? surgery july 9th. stress fx tibia feb. not diag. until may after 2nd mri.

Not unusual: While it's been about 10 weeks since your surgery it would not be unusual to have some 
swelling related to activites
the swelling should go down overnight?
I think the swelling would more likely be
related to the knee surgery and not the
stress fracture
you might benefit from some nsaids or even
a cortisone injection to bring the swelling down.
