can i take antibiotics after i get high and sober up?

Accepted Answer

Think 'Big picture': If you've been prescribed antibiotics- that means your body needs help overcoming some type of infection. Getting high or getting intoxicated will NOT help the situation. In addition, there can be both short term (i.e. death) and long term (i.e. death) effects from abusing drugs and alcohol. Hopefully you can think about the important things in life like your family, etc and get back on track.

I'm glad: No disrespect is intended. The very fact that you have posed the question tells me that you've discovered something -- that you don't need alcohol to be happy. Perhaps you've reached a point in your life -- which i suspect has not been an easy or a fair one -- in which you have discovered that the world is still a beautiful place with much to offer that you don't need alcohol to enjoy. Cherish it.

???: I have never heard of mushrooms lowering blood pressures by themselves. Maybe as part of a low salt diet and increased physical activity. Please refer to the american heart association website for more non-medication ways to lower your blood pressure.

Maybe.: If the high elevation in liver enzymes was due to alcohol, there is a possibility that things can return to normal. There is also a possibility that it will not.  Liver enzyme abnormalities are very likely to recur with any alcohol use. Abstinence must be lifelong.

my husband's ast is 52. off and on high. all other numbers normal. in recovery and sober 8 yrs. ultrasound good 3 yrs ago. what could this be?

High off and on?: AST is a sensitive test. But it also has small error rate  such that a single value is not totally reliable. So it must be rechecked and confirmed. if two consecutive values are high, then it points to some liver cell damage taking place. Get it rechecked once more, in case it is causing you concern.

See below: While there are reports of milk thistle being beneficial for the liver, the most important thing to do is to find out why the liver enzymes are elevated. Your doctor can help you out with that.

Who knows: what's in the pills and what it could do to you? Reishi mushroom is POSSIBLY SAFE for most people when used appropriately. It can cause some side effects including dryness of the mouth, throat, and nasal area along with itchiness, stomach upset, nosebleed, and bloody stools. However, there is almost no scientific evidence to document any of the claims.

Need to see a doc: You need to consult in person visit to the doc.  It could be migraine, high blood pressure, heart disease or other issue.

Biliary colic: Gallstone attacks aka biliary colic are right sided, above the umbilicus, lasts 20 minutes or longer, associated with nausea and occasional vomiting. Fatty foods make it worse. Go for a surgery consult. Gallstones can be dangerous when infection or obstruction occur. Risk benefit analysis is in favor of gallbladder removal. Hep c does not change this recommendation. Be well.

i have alcohol use disorder and am now recently sober. blood tests from 2 weeks ago with ast 135, alt 175. laboratory uln was 33. bilirubin was a bit low. mcv a bit high. i know i had fatty liver. does this indicate cirrhosis?

: The gold standard for the diagnosis of cirrhosis is a liver biopsy. You must totally abstain from alcohol &amp; should be evaluated, advised and followed by a hepatologist or gastroenterologist. In my opinion, the findings do suggest alcoholic liver disease more than fatty liver.
