Soaking & padding: General foot pain is difficult to heal. Soaks and padding is ideal. Over the counter mentholated products can be of some help.

4. Elevation

if acute pain.....I would see a foot specialist to determine the cause of the pain. It could be bone, soft tissue which can include nerve pain.

Multiple Options: Depending on the severity of the arthritis, you can:

1) use antiinflammatories (sparingly if you have heart problems, high BP or kidney issues; can't use with stomach ulcer history)
2) try an off the shelf or custom ankle brace
3) modify your work/activities
4) consider low impact activities (yoga)

if these things are not helping, then consultation with an orthopedic surgeon may be needed.

Stress fracture: There are lots of reasons for insidious foot pain (pain for no apparent reason). Most common is a stress fracture. Most people do not remember any injury. Other reasons can be tendinitis, gout, neuritis or an infection. I would rest, ice and see my favorite podiatrist for an x-ray.

Foot pain: The foot pain could be related to many things like shoe gear, trauma, tendon overworking, sprain or tear to a ligament, etc.  It is not likely related to your neck.

Sciatica: Sciatica pain can be very disabling. Fortunately in most cases it is self limited and may take time. Some patients benefit from traction therapy with combination of muscle relaxers, analgesics (short course of opiates), and anti-inflammatory medication. Acupuncture me be alternative. Epidural treatments may be considered prior to surgical alternatives. Hope you feel better soon.

i have atrial fibrillation.  i take nsaids for knee and foot pain relief.. please recommend safe painkillers other than nsaids.

Tylenol (acetaminophen): In average doses...But if you are on blood thinners this must be discussed with your physician.

i have foot pain on the lateral side of my foot around the fourth and fifth metatarsals when i'm pushing off. walking barefoot or on flip flops relieves it while wearing sneakers aggravates it. could it be some kind of neuroma or stress fracture?

Yes: It could be either that you describe.  You should have it examined and probably have an x-ray taken to rule out fracture.
