how to reduce swelling cause by head bump?

Ice pack: Ice pack. Treating the swelling may have cosmetic benefits (short term) but doesn't affect long term results. Ice can also reduce pain. Apply it for no more than 20 minutes at a time.

i shaved 'there' yesterday morning and noticed a little bump before bed. it feels like 'stuck' hair, so i am guessing it is an ingrown hair from shaving 'there'. how can i reduce the pain and swelling?

: Hot compresses might help...simply run tolerably hot water over your wash cloth, wring it out, fold, then apply to the affected area for a few minutes at a time.  Repeat this hourly during the daytime, if convenient to do so.  The heat enhances blood flow to the area.  If the pain worsens, it warrants a visit to one's physician.

Chalazion/hordeolum?: My answer depends on what you are being treated for - has your doctor told you that you have a chalazion or hordeolum (commonly called a stye)?  If so, than longer courses of Doxycycline (or related med), omega-3 supplements, continued hot compresses, lid massage and lid hygiene are in order, and possibly incision and drainage in the office by your surgeon if these methods are failing.

Possibly started as: You described a draining abcess, a walled off inflammed skin infection.  It may have initially been a pimple (comedome), that was scratched and bacterial growth took over in it's compromised state.  Open and draining is good.  That is what we would do if you came to see us with the red swollen tender bump, if it were ready, we would open it so it could drain.  If it stops improving, see a doctor.

It's Possible...: Although swelling, redness are signs of inflammation, it is possible to have pain without exhibiting the signs of inflammation. Localized pressure to a specific area can cause the nerve to become irritable and and a slight touch can cause the pain. The foot should be evaluated by a specialist with knowledge of the potential causes of metatarsal pain and familiar with appropriate solutions.
