Possibly started as: You described a draining abcess, a walled off inflammed skin infection. It may have initially been a pimple (comedome), that was scratched and bacterial growth took over in it's compromised state. Open and draining is good. That is what we would do if you came to see us with the red swollen tender bump, if it were ready, we would open it so it could drain. If it stops improving, see a doctor.

Infection: You should definitely see your doctor. This could be an abscess (infection) and may need antibiotics and or surgery. If it is in the center top of the buttocks area it could be a pilonidal cyst which could be infected .
