A lymph node "tastes" lymph to see if anything bad is there like bacteria, viruses, cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and enlarges in response to the inflammation they create when they react.  They reduce when the problem heals.

Take fever med: Cipro is antibiotic for the infection = 2-3 days to see change. You should be taking tylenol (acetaminophen) or advil around the clock with fever that high to keep it under control and reduce how bad you feel. If not improving, or any worsening, go to er.

Lymph node swelling: Lymph nodes are where the immune cells of the body process all the stimuli from various infectious and other foreign stimuli in our environment. In children these are very active areas as so many things are "new" to them. It is natural for these to swell and then subside. Only persistent enlargement is a cause for concern due to infection that isn't cleared, or neoplasia.

ENT follow up?: Possible eustachian tube disorder. An exam by an ENT may help rule out ETD. Epstein barr  or CMV possible. Biopsy of one of the lymph nodes would be helpful in case it's sarcoidosis. Meniere's and rare migraine also a possibility.

Not really: Lymph node swelling can not go away in one day..So it has to be something else. You should go and show it to your pcp and find out if there is anything visible or palpable in your neck. If it is real he/she will be able to detect it, verify it and treat the problem.

The size may vary: As a rule, the larger , the more and the harder the nodes are, the more chances of them to be malignant. But anything is possible so don't rely on the size alone. Only a biopsy can confirm a diagnosis of lymphoma. Fever. Night sweats and weight loss indicate a more advanced stage. Take care!

Lump: Sometimes these are reactive lymph nodes reacting to either throat, ear or sinus infections. Please see a doctor.

Possible causes include swollen lymph nodes, benign skin cysts, salivary gland swelling, congenital cysts, or rare tumors. Factors such as location, size, and duration make some of these more or less likely. Lymph node swelling is very common in response to local infection.
