Weight training: The ideal weight gain in generally healthy people (without thyroiod or other metabolic problems) is muscle/bone weight gain, not gain of fat.  When patient's as me how to go about gaining weight i tell them to continue eating healthy meals, and begin weight training.

i eat lots of protein, slow burning carbs, and i still can't lose weight, even with a 6 day a week exercise routine.  do i have insulin resistance?

Weight loss: Exercise may build muscle, which can add to weight, even though you are more trim.  However, most of us eat more than we think, and exercise less than we think.  Recommend getting a fitbit or equivalent and use not only the exercise features, but the calorie/food counting features.  If you tally up all your food every day, you may have some surprises.

Because...: Unlike carbs or sugars they do not cause a rapid secretion of insulin, and blood sugar levels to not skyrocket and then plummet. Protein delivers a steady supply of glucose to the body as needed by conversion of Amino Acids ( the building blocks of protein) by the liver into glucose.  Therefore hunger is abated. Recent evidence, just published, suggest that carbs actually make the brain hungrier!

Protein: Yes. It is like you are eating time released food. It lasts as a fuel source for 6-8 hrs. You should eat 1 gram of protein for every pound of ideal body weight per day. For instance, if your ideal body weight should be 180 pounds, then you should eat 180 grams of protein a day...As long as you don't have any kidney disease. Protein is found in meat, dairy, eggs and protein supplements.

food to eat after exercising? i was wondering what foods to eat after exercising (cardio) if i'm trying to lose weight. it seems counter-intuitive! also, is there a certain time frame by which one should eat protein after exercising?

Your : Your best bet would be to eat at least about an hour before your work-out. This would be a good time to have carbohydrates, because you will burn them off fairly quickly during your cardio work out while giving you energy to power through your work out. Immediately after your work out you can drink a low fat protein shake, this will help build muscle, which will eventually burn fat.
For a more detailed and tailored regimen, a sports nutritionist would be a good person to consult.

Improving your food: plan is a good idea but please consider some form of exercise.  They mutually help each other.  Baby steps.  10 minutes of walking to start.  Move to 15 or 20.  Boredom stops people from exercise.  Use headphones if needed.  Peace and good health.

Perhaps: Ideal Protein diet can help lose weight but you should get clearance from your physician prior to beginning the diet. If you have food allergies, some chronic medical conditions this may not be appropriate for you.
