How much pain: How much discomfort, pain,  ability to wear shoes,  any pus with red granulation tissue is growing at side of the nail,  are all in ascending order , how deep is  ingrown nail is digging into tissue.

Podiatrist: I think the best course of action would be to see your primary care and/or a podiatrist. May need that nail removed, in whole or in part. Typically an office procedure with local anesthesia.

Sounds like: an infection.....a "hands on" exam is suggested ..In the meantime SOAKS may help....

Injury: The sharp end of nail probably injures the skin of toe, resuled in infection or inflammation. Using cool compresses to calm it down. If no significant sign of infection, the inflammation/pain would subsided in time.

If your concerned: Enough to ask.....You need to go back....Black discoloration could possibly be discoloration fromo silver nitrate, scab, blood within skin or possibly melanoma so should have it looked at.

how often should i keep a band aid over an ingrown toenail where the skin on the outside is red and is hurting?

Needs drainage?: This is called a paronychia, or infected ingrown nail. It may need to be drained, and/or antibiotics. You should have this looked at by your primary care doctor within the next day or two. It's more urgent if it's getting worse. In the mean time, soak it in warm water with Epsom salt for 5-10 minutes 3-4 times per day. It may need more than a bandaid. Hope this helps!

i got a painful ingrown toenail, so i had to cut a tiny bit of skin on my toe to remove it and now it won't stop bleeding. how do i make it stop?

Ingrown nail: The bleeding should stop with pressure is a few minutes.  Then apply a topical antibiotic that your not allergic to with a band aid over it.  Then - see your podiatrist for proper assistance and stop the bs aka bathroom surgery !   good luck.

Abscess: An abscess is a collection of pus in the body.  Signs would include, swelling, redness, pain, and possible drainage.  If you are concerned, i would advise you to see a podiatrist.  Bad infections can require antibiotics.
