Subscience: The term ectomorph comes from a 1930's yale study of young men's body measurements. A light-boned man with little fat or muscle was an "ectomorph". You've got your bone structure already, and you ability to gain muscle mass (i assume you don't want fat) is genetic. Do some serious resistance training and consider supplementing with creatine. Photo guy is an ectomorph who proved you too can do it.

Incorrect body type?: Ectomorphs are people who have excessive fatty tissue and by definition tend to be overweight.  Endomorphs are those with a thin habitus and it is possible to gain weight.  See your physician and they will suggest a diet and or activities for you after a physical exam.

Safe Weight Gain?: Steroids should not be your choice to gain weight. In fact your current Ht to Wt is actually healthy. Any addition weight can be gained through weight lifting combined with increased and correct protein/fat/carb intake. Consider a gym trainer to help guide you in a plan for both.

Depends!: You can get in much better shape.  This is what exercise is primarily for.  Looks are important but secondary to this goal. Whatever your build, however, it can be much improved by a combination of weight training and cardio activity. However, you must laso lose uncessary weight as well to get "ripped." therefore a diet plan is needed as well. We all have genetic limitations, but you can improve!

Hit it hard: A light-boned man may be an easy or hard gainer. If you do resistance exercises 3 sets of 10 reps maximum weight 3x/week for each muscle group, you will gain. A slow gainer can enhance benefits using creatine and/or an electronic muscle stimulator if okay with the personal physician. 'ectomorph' is an old subscientific term; you're who you are; build and harden what you have.

Weight training: Any vigorous exercise will do; weight training may be more effecive. It is not feasible to target fat loss to a particular area, you will need to reduce your caloric intake while maintaining protein intake of about one gram/kg of body weight.

Train hard: The term is used either for someone who is light-framed or for someone who gains muscle relatively more slowly when doing resistance training. Work out for your goals. Aerobic fitness for your definition and overall health; resistance for muscle mass (10 reps / set, 3 sets / workout; 3-4 workout / week). Eat sensibly, enough protein. You may be a hard-gainer, but while you're trying to build mass, try to eat a gram of lean protein per pound that you weigh, daily. Beyond this, eat moderately and sensibly. You may be at an advantage over 'naturally big' guys when it comes to definition, and you'll make them jealous.

69.5 inches, 115 lbs: To gain weight you have to eat more calories than burned. Do this in a healthy way though. Don't choose junk or fast food. Keep a well balanced diet and make sure you are getting all the nutrients you need. Weight lifting and other muscle building exercises can help you increase your body mass. A primary doctor can examine to confirm that general health appears normal. Muscle size is also genetic.
