Hip Replacement: if you are having significant pain then yes you are exercising to much. Remember that you not only had replacement of your joint but you had extense muscle surgery.  It takes time for that to heal.  There
 is little truth to the saying no pain no gain after joint replacement.

See an Orthopaedic : You need to be evaluated by an orthopedic surgeon. Depending on how long you have had the pain and exactly where the pain is you could need an MRI. There are several causes of thigh pain and seeing an Orthopedist would be the first step for an accurate diagnosis.

Yes if they r active: I have been suprize by how mascular is the legs of obese people are, this likely due to the extra weight that they have to carry around 24/7. This of course is until their movement and activity start to slow down, at then you will probably start seeing atrophy and loss of this mascular bulk.

Left leg numbness: Sounds like the nerve may be impinged upon. Physical therapy is warranted to teach you the right exercises to ease your pain. Of course wait for the MRI results before embarking on any aggressive therapy so you do not do more harm.

May get worse with tight objects about the waist, and is associated with weight gain, belts, seat belt injuries, and diabetes.

Pressure on nerve: This means that the nerve that carries sensation from the outer part of the thigh gets entrapped or pinched in the thigh or pelvis. Usually this happens as it passes down from the abdomen to the thigh underneath a ligament. This is mostly seen in diabetics, people who experience rapid weight gain, pregnancy, obesity, tight clothes/belts. It is generally gets better once the cause is removed.
