does sour candy really help treat  salivary gland stones?

Yes: Sour foods help saliva production.  The hope is that, with the extra saliva production, your gland will expel the stone.

Sucking a lemon: It very well could be a salivary issue. I would see your dr asap to determine if there is a problem.

: There are some conditions which cause dry mouth, not because of blocked salivary ducts. You should see an ENT (specialist in ear, nose and throat conditions) for a correct diagnosis and treatment. Good hydration does not always relieve dry mouth, it only works if you are dehydrated. By the way, there are many salivary glands which are parotid, submandibular and sublingular glands.

Yes: it will help to secrete more saliva , if stone is blocking will flush it out , go back for follow up . some times need a procedure to extract the stone from duct.

First 24 hours: Iodine is excreted through kidneys, saliva , and sweat. After radioactive dose drinking as much fluid as possible to excrete excess radioactivity through  kidney. 1.5 hours after rx sour candies or gum to get rid of excess secretions through saliva. Solid meal not until 6 hours after dosing . Most excess radioactive iodine  excreted in first 24 hours. Rest accumulated in thyroid gland.

Stimulated: We sometimes use sour tasting items to stimulate salivary gland flow to evaluate blockages in salivary ducts. If you have a stone in the duct it can produce sudden swelling but a sensation like you describe is most likely just caused by the sudden stimulation of the gland.

Hunger: I'm not sure what you mean.  You'll salivate if you're hungry.  If your salivary glands are swollen, they could be blocked with a stone or thick mucus.  Dehydration can be part of the problem there, also infection, and sometimes autoimmune disease.
