on 25mg atenolol twice a day. hr used to get higher after 12 hr mark. it doesn't do this anymore... could my tachycardia be cured from the medicine?

It is more likely: that your arrhythmia is controlled, not cured. Tachycardia has many possible causes and diagnoses but atenolol will not cure any of them, only control them. If you stop the medication it will come back.

SVT: Svt can be controlled but not cured with medications. These have to be taken continuously in order to help prevent recurrences. A "cure" can be achieved with a technique called radiofrequency ablation or rfa. This gives the best chance for cure without having to take medications lifelong. There is a risk of needing a permanent pacemaker but risk is low when done by an expert in the technique.

Cardioversion: If it is really a sinus tachycardia, it is unlikely to work by our present understanding. If its an ectopic that looks like sinus, maybe. I presume you've seen an electro physiologist about your state.

?  reversible causes: Inapproriate sinus tachycardia typically signals in imbalance in the sympathetic nervous signals --the "fight or flight" reflex.  It is a sinus rate that is excessive without provocation.  It is important to make sure that reversible causes of sympathetic nerve stimulation are ruled out--such as dehydration, anmia, excessive thyroid hormone, anxiety.  Beta blockers first.  Clonidine might help too.

Tachycardia : Heart rate above 120 bpm is tachycardia. Need to determine cause.
Causes include - hyperthyroidism, infection, anaemia , medication and anxiety. Suggest visit to GP for work up .

POTS: This syndrome can come and go. There are a bunch of steps like salt loading and some drugs used to treat the problem as well as supoort hose nd some exercises. No treatment has been uniformly successful and there is n't long term data on pots. Seeing a doc who specializes in this condition may increase your chances of relief.

Many causes: Beside being a primary "fast rhythm" other causes include pain, exercise, albuterol (breathing treatment), fever, hyperthyroidism and some other serious problems. Metoprolol may be "short acting" (depending on the dose) Atenolol may last longer.

Most of no use.: Synthetic nerve block had been successful, but I doubt that it will help in any of your conditions. I am not quite sure about if it will help in vascular issues as you have not specified about what veins and what kind of vascular problem, I also cannot answer about your traumatic drug reaction as you did not indicate what type of drug was involved and what kind of reaction.

Have it checked: It may be related to anemia, hypotension, thyroid disease, coffee intake, anxiety, smoking, stimulants, lack of physical fitness, obesity, nothing at all or be related to other illness. Your md will be able to tell the difference.
