Yes and no, maybe: Regular Progesterone will do nothing to change your pcos in the long run, but will usually be successful at making you cycle (withdraw) reliably. Some women ovulate following Provera (medroxyprogesterone) withdrawal, some do not.

Various: High Progesterone levels can be a contraceptive, and are used as such by gyn's. Other effects may include tiredness, vaginal dryness, high Insulin levels, decreased Insulin sensitivity, weight gain, reduced sex drive and depression. Is your Progesterone level high or have you been taking Progesterone for some reason? Either way, consult your gyn doc.

Yes: You'd have to take a lot of Progesterone to overdose, as high doses are frequently given for patients undergoing chemotherapy, etc. But to answer your question, yes over time the effects of Progesterone do diminish.

GERD/vaginal dischar: Vaginal Progesterone (prochieve or crinone) is a very safe and effective intervention to prevent preterm birth in women with asymptomatic short cervix! topical irritation or discharge can occur but are rarely a cause to stop the therapy. If you have gerd (reflux) or constipation the extra Progesterone will make them worse. Talk to your obstetrician to determine if this is a good idea for you.

Progesterone creams used intravaginallyfor  women sometimes give mild itching or irritation, the gels also may 'clump' and give discharge. On the skin, irritation sometimes occurs. There are no medically important risks or major side effects to these creams.

Stop using it.: Stop using it. Most 'natural Progesterone creams' do not contain any Progesterone at all, and often contain plant extracts that are estrogenic in effect. In my clinical view there is no good use for these creams. Talk with your doctor about alternatives to accomplish what you need.

IUD use: The "progesterone IUD" is available, and aside from the pain on insertion, and a statistically higher chance of pregnancy (usually due to movement into the cervical canal of the IUD) the IUD is well tolerated.  Any IUD is more uncomfortable if placed in women who have not had a term or near term pregnancy.

OTC progesterone: The bad: they rarely contain progesterone, when they do you don't know how much is being delivered,  'estrogen dominance' is not a disease or well-defined abnormailty. Women with amenorrhea because of ovulatory problems can get good help in lots of ways, these creams are not one of them.
