Yes, it may: Rice cereal is quite safe and often used to thicken the formula in hope that it will reduce the reflux..As it is easier to reflux liquid vs solid foods. Just try a little bit at a time..It may or may not help with reflux. You may want to keep baby head-up a bit after feeding and during sleep--some use a carseat etc..To keep baby head elevated. If symptoms persist, consult doc.

Reflux: Sometimes changing the milk helps.  Sometimes medicine is required.  Your doctor can help you determine what you need.

Maybe: The use of alumentus suggests there is concern for possible intolerance to some of the protein sources in the earlier feeds. Rice cereal will have a foreign protein source and may be a problem. The amount is somewhat arbitrary.When using cereal many add a teaspoon/4 oz.You could get a similar effect by adding some alumentum powder (same amount) and not have a new protein.The idea is to thicken fds.

What is ?: If your question is about the rash, it is likely the rash is from the irritation of the spit-up from the reflux. Try to keep as dry as possible and change shirt right away if does get wet. You are on a very easy to digest formula. Even with that, though, reflux can still occur. Do small, more frequent feeds, keep baby upright 30 minutes after feeds. good burping and elevate head of crib.

Not recommended: Although everyone knows someone who did this and the child turned out just fine, it really isn't recommended.  As long as your child is growing well and developing normally, they should grow out of this...Eventually.  Burping well and sitting up (car seat) for a while after eating can both help.  Antireflux formulas and adding rice cereal really don't do a lot to help.

Thickener: The american academy of pediatrics recommends solids at six months. However, in the treatment of reflux, a spoonful or two is used to thicken feeding. In your case, you did your baby, no harm, since he was on the rice cereal for such a short time.

Thickening feeds: The idea is to thicken the feed so it stays down easier. Whether this is done by adding formula powder or rice cereal is less important than the fact that it helps many. I would never go to drugs first, which only help symptoms than try something more natural. Old schools taught good things &amp; new treatments are not always better.

RICE ALLERGY?: Among the cereals when first intruducing solid foods, rice cereal is the safest. Mothers are advised to give cereals one by one to avoid allergy especially to wheat. During diarrhea, we give rice cereal to the diet.

Dont need to: No need to add rice to baby's bottle unless it is for a medical reason like reflux.  Starting baby foods, that is feeding rice cereal watered down with breast milk or formula and feeding it with a spoon can begin at 4 to 6mo of age.
