the bottom of my feet are sunburned and have blisters on them. i was playing sand volleyball without shoes on. how do i treat it?

Sunburn: It sounds like you are presenting 2 different problems. Sunburn comes in 3 degrees: 1st degree is redness, 2nd degree is blistering and 3rd degree is loss of epithelium (skin). If there is a 2nd degree burn, playing beach vb only exacerbated it. You will need to have the burn and blisters treated by your physician. Keep your feet protected and either go to the emergency department or pcp asap.

Expandable: You can get shoes that are made oy lycra so they expand.
Talk to your local podiatrist.

my orthotic is too big to fit into any shoes, what should i do?

Accepted Answer

Visit your doctor: Visit the doctor or orthotist that made the orthotics. Sometimes a simple adjustment can help them fit. Otherwise, they can offer you suggestions for that particular issue.

i resently migrated to canada from jamaica and my feet are swollen none of my shoes fit, what causes this?

Salt of the Earth.: When you made the move from Jamaica to Canada, your environ changed. You went from an area of high heat and humidity to one of lower humidity and cooler temperatures. This may have altered your physiology, including the rate of perspiration and salt loss. Since your move you are losing less salt, therefore you need less salt now. Possibly, this relative salt increase is causing your swollen feet.

my right pinky toe keeps going numb and i'm not sure why. it doesn't turn colors and i haven't stubbed it and my shoes fit. what else could it be?

Possibly a neuroma: Sometimes morton's neuroma can cause numbness of the 5th toe. It is not possible with the present information to rule out another nerve entrapment .. Make sure you are wearing proper fitting shoes.

i have wide feet and a bunionette. my feet do not seem to fit normal or even wide sized shoes, what can i do?

Surgery?: Have you gone to a shoe cobbler to have your shoes stretched?  Usually a cobbler has some tools to help stretch out shoes in the key areas where you might have tightness from the shoes.  Otherwise i would suggest you see a podiatrist or foot and ankle surgeon to discuss your surgical options.

what is the best shoe for high arches and wide feet? i have trouble finding shoes that provide the right fit and support.

Depends: This depends on the type of shoe and I cannot give specific recommendations, but you should feel that you have good support, and that you are not having any pain in the arch area. You can also get some inserts for sneakers and loafer type shoes.

is it normal for my 4 year old ( 5 in august ) to have extremely wide feet seems like xw in width shoes are too small he weighs 101 lbs but he's very active and slowly slimming down having a hard time finding him shoes that fit him width wise sandals?

: As a podiatrist I believe the difficulty and problem is not finding shoes, but more the weight of the child. I would seek help and guidance with your pediatrician.

for a shoe to fit correctly, the break in the shoe must be at the first metatarsal joint . what does that mean?

Accepted Answer

The shoe bends: Where your big toe joint bends. A proper fitting shoe needs to bend where your foot bends at the toes so you can push off properly. If the shoe is to stiff it may lead to tendinitis . If the shoe is very flexible in the wrong way it may not be supportive enough. A good shoe bends easily at the toe break and resists torsion or twsiting in the arch arrea.

have over pronation and use orthotics. heel counter in shoe should fit so heel does not ride up & down.  subjective as to how much motion is ok?

The heel: The heel part of the orthoses should not move.  The heel moves slightly within the heel, but the heel part of the orthotic device should remain stationary,  also, look for an orthotic with flexibility in the arch but not very flexible.  A foot expert should be able to critique the orthoses when viewing it up close and personal.
