However you like: There is no correct position to sleep in after a lumbar microdiscectomy.  Whatever position is most comfortable to you.  The more important aspect of sleep is how you get in and out of bed.  Be sure not to strain or excessively twist your torso.

Sleep study: Sleep apnea can only be diagnosed by a sleep study.  The increased snoring and feeling of throat closing when laying down is suspicious for sleep apnea but you can have these symptoms without sleep apnea as well.  Without more information i can't really blame the discectomy on your snoring/throat closing issues.  Your primary doctor can order a sleep study or you can see an ENT for this.

Laminectomy: Most discectomies (lumbar) are performed through a laminectomy or laminotomy, when a posterior opening into the spinal canal is made to approach the disc.  It can also be performed through approaches such as anterior (cervical), depending on the location of pathology. Percutaneous and/or endoscopic approaches can be done, usually for less severe pathology.

The disk is comprised of a tough fibrous outer layer (donut) and a gelatinous inner layer. Disk herniations can occur when some of the jelly leaks out of the donut. A diskectomy is most commonly (but not always )when this herniated bit of disk (jelly) is surgically removed.

TMJ discectomy: Tmj discectomy is a form of arthroplasty, but instead of repairing the disc, it is removed. You'll have some pain but it should be manageable. You'll need a very soft diet and active range of motion exercises for several weeks. However, the long term results are generally good.

Short: The sciatic pain should be cleared up immediately after the surgery. However the incisional pain may last for about a week to 10 days.
