Don't: He's six weeks old and telling you what he needs.  If he's growing well, then this is a good schedule for him.

Accepted Answer

Feedings: No more than 4 oz (60ml) per feeding.  If breast milk, then no sooner than 2 hours from the last feeding.  If formula, then no sooner than 2 1/2 hours from the last feeding.  If a large amount of the feeding is spit up on a regular basis, then reduce the amounts fed and feed more frequently. Most 6 week old infants eat about 2-4 ounces a feeding.

I seldom do: If a kid is over 9 pounds, they don't need to be awakened at night to feed. They live off what is in their gut, not the content of their stomach, and each can go 8 hours or more after feeding is well established.

This may be fixable: This is the time and behavior associate with colic that is common. No one really knows the cause but I believe there are many different causes given a young  infant digestive tract. Stools sound normal. As a normal stage,  fussy times begin between 3 to 6 weeks, resulting in a unconsololable baby between 6/9 pm of age. These episodes usually last for one

It varies: Most babies will take up to 4 ounces per feeding in the first 2 months. After that, if he still acts hungry, add another 1/2 ounce at a time to see if that is what he needs. Don't rush him or give him too much. After the first month, if he sleeps longer at night, let him sleep. Do wake him in the day if he sleeps longer than 3-4 hours, since he probably should eat.

Let her sleep: As long as she is eating when she is awake and wetting and filling  diapers.  Let her sleep.  She will wake when she's hungry.  Get some sleep yourself.

Breastfeeding Best: Food protein-induced proctitis/proctocolitis is caused by proteins from cow's milk, which are ingested through breast milk or standard cow's milk based formulas. Treatment consists of complete elimination of cow's milk from the diet. Breastfeeding is always best. Strict avoidance is key, read labels and stay vigilant. Good news is that sensitivity resolves by one year of age in almost all infants.

Newborn feeding: She should probably be eating about 5 oz per kg every day. At her age, this would probably amount to approximately 24 oz a day. It sounds like she is eating a little more, up to 40 oz a day. Listen to her though - she will ask for what she needs and, if it isn't making her sick, don't cut down too much.

my 6 week old son keeps gagging and coughing  at night mainly , very flemmy when he brings up his bottle?

Sounds like: Gastro-esophageal reflux (milk goes back up to his throat from his stomach). For now, limit feeds to two ounces max and feed as often as he asks (2-3 hrs). Keep his head elevated above his stomach area for at least 30 min after feeds. See your doctor on monday. If at any time he seems to breath fast or develops fussiness and fever, take him to er.

Yes: Colic in its simplest form is gas in sections of the bowel that have bowel spasm around them.  It can make an infant miserable.
