is it safe to have an appendectomy in 2nd trimester of pregnancy? what is the success rate? do they calm the fetus down prior to the procedure.

Overall yes but: Any surgical procedure, ideally , should wait until after the baby is born.  Surgery, even simple surgery, carries risks to both the mom and fetus. However,  if the appendectomy is truly needed then proceed.

i am in my 2nd trimester of pregnancy. i will need a root canal on a tooth that already has a large silver filling. my dentist said not to worry about exposing the fetus to mercury in the process. is there anything to fear? seems conflicting info?

Accepted Answer

: This is a topic of controversy in dentistry. You for sure will expose to a higher amount of mercury vapor when the filling is removed but the procedure is contraindicated or not during pregnancy is still debated. Your tooth needs to be taken care of so unless you sacrifice your tooth with extraction, you probably do not have other choice. If you are still in doubt, you can get a 2nd opinion.

pretty sure that my fetus s no less than 5w but gestational sac is barely seen..3days ago hcg 4518..today 8315..no pain no bleeding..should i worry ?

No: Still very early. You should be able to see a lot more in just 1 week.

hi dr, i'm 14 wk with cervical cercilage,i'm asking gestational age should be at which week inorder safely have a flight , fetus is better to be big in size or small in order to have flight and not much affect the cercilage because oof cabin pressure?

: The commercial airline cabin pressure is optimally controlled so there is no effect on your uterus and its content. Travel in the second trimester is probably safer for you so I think it is safe for you to book the flight if you have to go. Good luck.

Yes: An first trimester sonogram is fairly accurate at dating a pregnancy (within a margin of error of about a week).  At 12 weeks menstrual age with a viable pregnancy a sonogram measurement of 9 weeks would change the dating of the pregnancy and your due date should be based on that sonogram.  Later sonograms should not change this established date.

i'm 21 weeks of gestation,  how can i know that the fetus is well? 
can dopplar study be reassuring?

Ultrasound: Many moms do find reassurance in US as they can actually see their developing baby moving around and the physician can check anatomy.  They aren't required though. Your OB is monitoring your growth and the babies heart rate - two parameters that are followed to see if everything seems to be progressing normally.

ultrasound says my fetus is 6 weeks 2 days but my gestational sac is 7 weeks 2 days. heartbeat is normal. is everything ok?

Most likely: The most accurate measurement of the fetus is the crown rump length. The gestational sac is like a fluid filled balloon, not a perfect sphere. So the measurement of the sac can vary quite a bit depending on what part was measured. If there is already a fetal heart beat, that is a great sign. Keep your follow up appointments with your OB doctor.

Heartbeat: If your sonogram confirmed an intrauterine pregnancy with a heartbeat then those are encouraging signs that things are progressing normally. A slight variation is the gestational sac size is less significant

Gestational Sac: The gestational sac is the first ultrasound sign of pregnancy.  You will usually see it beginning 5 weeks from your last menstrual period.  By 6 weeks you should see the yolk sac and by 6 and 1/2 to 7 weeks the embryo.

Sort of: Yes, the measurements on average do correspond to these dates and they are fairly accurate, but not exact.  Also it is dependent on how the ultrasound tech measures it.  So there are plenty of sources of mild error.
