A member asked:

Is it safe to have an appendectomy in 2nd trimester of pregnancy? what is the success rate? do they calm the fetus down prior to the procedure.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Overall yes but: Any surgical procedure, ideally , should wait until after the baby is born. Surgery, even simple surgery, carries risks to both the mom and fetus. However, if the appendectomy is truly needed then proceed.
