hello, i currently suffer from anemia from a lack of vitamin b12 and take supplements for it. i am ashamed to admit i experimented with alcohol enemas multiple times. should/how do i ask my family doctor to test for this? maybe colon cancer etc?

: Test for what? Cancer? Unlikely! Alcohol via enema is just another method of alcohol exposure/intake. While potentially irritating to the tissue it self heals easily. Is your anemia truly B12 related? That is a known defect of absorption. There are many possible contributing factors. Talking with your doc about all your concerns is a worthy and reasonable practice. We want to know so we can help.

179 Year Old?: If you reach 179 you have been doing everything correctly and you will set a new record for age, however any multivitamin along with a good diet should suffice.

In the AM: Its easier to remember to take them in the morning. Soe are best given in divided doses. ( vit c).

Multivitamins: I would recommend that people take a daily multivitamin. In addition, I would also recommend supplementing with Vitamin C and Vitamin D (especially in colder climates). There is some evidence against taking anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen or elderberry in light of the current COVID-19 crisis, but that has not been studied thoroughly.

Not optimal: It is better to take Probiotics between meals and take vitamins and minerals after meals.

Alcohol, Vitamins: It is best to take vitamins with a meal to improve the absorption of the supplement.  Most alcoholics have significant vitamin deficiencies, and part of treatment include nutritional supplementation. There is no danger in taking vitamins with alcohol, but it is better to include the vitamins with a meal.

why are vitamin b-12 supplements only available in mega doses? took 250s, which is many times higher than mdr, now can't find anything less than 500!

You may not need any: You want to have a blood level for vitamin b 12.

It will probably be normal, as long as you eat healthy food or take one mvi (multivitamin).

Discuss the dose with your doc if low.

Might be serious: I am sorry to tell you that high B12 levels can be a sign of serious health problems including liver ; kidney disease, myelproliferative disorders including leukemia ; polycythemia vera ; hypereosinophilic syndrome.
