It varies.: Usually the fluid in the middle ear resolves by 3 months. There are some things that can be done to speed it up. Talk with your doctor. If the fluid has not resolved by three months i will offer patients a tube placement to remove the fluid. This can be done in the office.

After infection clea: It depends on the infection whether it is viral or bacterial and if there is residual fluid left behind the ear drum after the full course of antibiotics and reexamination by the doctor
if the infection has all clearedand there is no residual fluid behind the ear drum, your hering should return to normal gradually within 2to3 weeks.

Permanent  loss: You have a problem especially if you lost your hearing six months ago.  It likely that the damage is permanent, but i would get the opinion of an ENT physician.

See a doctor. Maybe.: Bullous myringitis is usually treated with antibiotics prescribed by your physician.  About your hearing, if this is occurring after many ear infections you might have some hearing loss.  If this is an isolated incident, give it a week to clear up the infection and start healing,  as fluid clears out of the infection, you will be able to hear better.

Needs evaluation: from what you're describing, I would recommend seeing a doctor in person so they can look in your ear, evaluate your symptoms, and prescribe the appropriate treatment.  Don't just wait for it to go away, see a doctor.

Try not to worry!: Apparently you didn&#x27;t believe or understand my previous reply to the same question, so I&#x27;ll try again. Myocarditis is an infrequent cause of sudden death, even in people with various illnesses with fever. By far the most common cause of early death is trauma: accident, violence, etc. So try not to worry about your heart -- and don&#x27;t forget your seat belt!

can you lose your hearing if you don't get an ear infection treated right away?

Unlikely: In the era before abx, people just tolerated ear infections until the body cleared them (often took months).Doc's occasionally lanced the drum to let the pressure off, & some people eventually needed ear bone reconstruction after years of recurrent pbs. Now, abx rx will speed up the cure but you don't have to run to the er worried u will go deaf.

Depends: After an ear infection from behind your middle ear resolves, the hearing returns after the ear drum swelling resolves as well as the fluid accumulation in your middle ear. This can take up to 90 days, though most resolve within 30.

Probably: But would need more info. You might benefit from use of a decongestant since it is possible there is fluid in the middle ear behind the eardrum which needs drainage.  If this persists you might want to consult with an ENT doctor.
