24/7 high pitched elevator noises are where i live. i have ear pain, itch, tinnitus, hearing loss, vertigo. pediatrician said no more infection, and can't tell what is wrong. i forgot to say chronic sinusitis. (i use netti pot) what is going on?

: A hearing test may be helpful. Continue to rinse nasal passages. Inner ear conditions should also be considered. Watch for headaches and change in vision.

Possible: Mri is not a sensitive tool for sinusitis.  Often, the sinuses are normal when one lights up on an mri.  Your symptoms are not classic for a sinus infection, and MRI is better for looking for central nervous system problems as the cause of your headache.  I would ask your doctor for an antibiotic good for sinusitis and follow up with a ct scan of the sinuses for the definitive answer.

sinusitis won't go away, how much longer do i have to suffer?

Sinusitis: If you have completed several courses of antibiotics for at least 14 days each and are not improving then i would recommend that you see an ENT specialist.  They may be able to perform a culture to see the type of bacteria and which antibiotics it is responsive to.  Or they may perform a ct scan to see if you need surgery.

taking cefdinik 600mg for 3 days for severe sinusitis infection, now headache all throughout head worse. should i stop taking or wait a little longer?

See ENT: You should be getting some relief, not worsening.  See an ENT who may wash out your sinuses and prescribe a decongestant in addition to antibiotic.

Proper ID: Bacterial sinusitis can last longer than three weeks. It is important to monitor for improvement or not once an antibiotic has been started. Failure to improve may indicate resistance to the choice of antibiotic selected or there may be more then 1 bacteria present or fungi may also be present; requiring an antibiotic with an anti fungal agent.  Knowing bugs and drugs is important for proper Tx.

Yes: Popping sounds, crackling, pressure feeling in ears are all symptoms that can occur with eustachian tube dysfunction.  A history of environmental allergies, nasal or sinus congestion, upper respiratory infections can all contribute to the condition. Using a decongestant can be helpful. See your doctor for an exam of your head/neck/ears/throat to be sure of the diagnosis.

is it possible for sinusitis to cause eye pain? 8 days, mucus is no longer yellow, no fever. left eye is painful and top of head. could this be sinuses? should i be on antibiotics?

: Eye pain should be evaluated. The headache may be related to your eye pain. Sinusitis may be associated with headache and facial pressure, but unilateral eye pain is less common. Swelling around the eye, vision change and redness should be evaluated in acute care. Use of nasal saline rinse may relieve nasal congestion and pressure.

: For documented sinusitis caused by an infection a course of an appropriate antibiotic for 7-10 days is usually effective. Occasionally up to 3 weeks of treatment is needed. It's also important to keep sinus draining by steam inhalations and/or nasal decongestants if necessary.

Many: Your primary care doctor can treat sinusitis as well as an allergist. An ENT surgeon can treat you as well and at times may recommend surgery if you meet indications... More than 4 infections per year or evidence of chronic sinusitis.
