Often 1-2 days: Usually one set of microscopic slides is prepared right away and a second set is prepared using a different method overnight. Your pathologist will look at both sets the next day. Often a diagnosis can be made then (about 1 day), although if additional tests need to be performed on the sample to confirm the diagnosis, it may add another day or so. The report usually goes to your doctor first.

Follow your doctor's: The doctor who has put you thru fna twice must have some advice for you to follow. If he does not know what to do, then you should go see a specialist(endocrinologist) who specialises in thyroid diseases. Fna is only helpful if it shows cancer. If it is benign it does not always mean it is correct, so a specilait needs to guide you for next step whichj may be surgical removal of the thyroid nodule.

Thyroidologist: It is reassuring that the biopsies didn't show malignancy. Aggressive thyroid malignancies are not common with benign biopsy results. Your thyroidologist is best to follow your case and advise you.

See your  doctor: Conveying pathological report on the phone is not a good practice , first phone conversation breaks confidentiality , doctor has to make a note , able to give you full information. Even if the report is not pleasant , in general thyroid malignancies are curable , have over all excellent prognosis , or simply doctor wants to inform you in person , don't  worry too much.

6cm complex nodule on thyroid, a few calcifications, heterogenous. are chances high this is malignant? should it just be removed without fna results?

May need an FNA: There are many (5) criteria for determining whether a thyroid nodule is at risk for malignancy, and whether FNA is indicated.  Calcifications (specifically, microcalcifications), are just one.  Additional specific criteria (not just being "complex"), such as echogenicity, margin description, is required to make a further determination.  Perhaps you could enter the full report for a better answer.

hi. i have done an fna on my thyroid. result was the left is extremely concerning because the cells have undergone oncological changes. the right is thyroditis. been to a general surgeon who recommends removing the thyroid completely. should i remove

Cancer: If there is evidence of cancer then total thyroidecctomy  is the recommended treatment. Thyroid replacement is very easy. Good Luck

i had a fna on thyroid, 1 nodule came back normal but the other 1 is lying too deeply & next to an artery, so could not get biopsy. what will happen ?

Watch both: do  not remove or try to biopsy second nodule but repeat CAT scans to assure 2nd lesion not growing.  Most of the cases of 2 nodules result in appearance of a 3rd or 4th nodule as part of multi nodular goiter.  If dramatic increase in size such a 2x in the next 4-6 months would consider open bx or excision and then treat accordingly.
