Read the bottle: directions should be clear on the pharmacy bottle.  usually until the bottle is gone or until your next appointment.  Make sure to check for refills.

Unusual combination: Amoxicillin usually isn't the best antibiotic for skin infections. The main skin infection bacteria often is staph, which doesn't repond to amoxicillin -- but might respond to doxycline. Maybe all you really need is to temporarily increase the dose of doxy; or to add a drug active against staph, like sulfa-trimethoprim, Augmentin, (amoxicillin and clavulanate) or clindamycin. Discuss with your doctor.

on doxycycline for malaria prophlaxis. doc asked to take amoxyciline for skin infection. 
is it ok to stop doxy while i'm on amoxy only 5days?

Go back to dr.: Do not stop doxycycline if you are still at risk for malaria (ie still in malarious area, or returned within last 4 wks).  Amoxicillin is not compatible with doxy, your doc should prescribe a different antibiotic.  Be sure to inform him that you are currently taking doxy.  Amoxicillin will not kill malaria parasites in the blood.

Acne treatment: The usual dose was 100 mg once daily, but now only 20 mg twice daily is usually considered OK. It often takes several weeks for imporovement to be apparent. Beware of photosensitivity, i.e. sunburn with only slight sun exposure, especially in sunny climates like yours. Such treatment must be under a doctor's care; follow her advice on the details.

ive been treating mrsa skin infection with doxycycline and am afraid its spreading. could a low temperature be a symptom? and how low is abnormal?

Spread: If the red, tender skin area is growing in size or has new red streaks, you must notify your prescribing provider right away.   Certainly MRSA can cause overwhelming infection (sepsis) but the sufferer would unlikely be sitting up posting questions.

i am taking doxycycline for a possible mrsa skin infection, and about 2 hours after taking it, i am vomiting. am i absorbing the medication?

Thirty MInute Rule: I teach my patients, especially those on medications that may cause upset stomachs, if they throw up within thirty minutes after taking a medication they should retake it. If it is longer than thirty minutes they wait to take the next dose when it is due.

May not be fungal: A prime reason for a good treatment to fail is the diagnosis was wrong to begin with. A month of treatment 2X/d with this cream should show at least some improvement. If not, the condition may be one of several that mimics skin fungus.

whats the chances of getting chlamydia from protected sex? if it was contracted, would a 100 mg of doxycycline for 14 days for a unrelated skin infection be enough to treat it?

Accepted Answer

: Being consistent with safe sex practices is your best protection against sexually transmitted infections (STIs or STDs).  If you have been exposed to chlamydia it is worth being tested for the relief of all concerned.   Testing after the completion of the course of antibiotics may provide useful information, but this sounds a bit low for treatment.

See a doctor: Need to see a doctor and get on the right type of antibiotics and or  incision and drainage.
