29 y/o female. will a skin biopsy detect discoid lupus? ring shaped rash on arms, itchy, red. dermatologist did biopsy and said it was eczema?

Yes: A slin biopsy should be able to detect discoid lupus.Also either the dermatologist,a rheumatologist or your primary may do labs to make sure not just discoid lupus but lupus itself.

my 8 month has a round red rash on her right cheek, is it eczema or ring worm? it doesn't seem to bother her and gives away with cortisone lotion

Likely not ringworm: Skin rashes are common in infants & a single patch of rash can be a lot of things.From drool rash to ringworm to allergic reaction, etc. If it improves with hydrocortizone it is probably not ringworm. It doesn't sound worrisome at this point so you can bring it up with your pcp at the next scheduled visit.

my daughter has eczema and lately she has been getting a very bad rash. red inflammation itching. dr gave her prednisone last wk - any suggestions?

Sec infection?: Well there are two things that can go wrong with eczema- it can flare up. For that you need to look at the triggers and treat with steroid ointment. OR it can get secondarily infected by virus, bacteria OR fungus. In these cases steroid alone won't help. Seek help from your doctor

No.: I would use only topical hydrocortisone on the baby's face.

May be neither: Erythema toxicum should be long gone by now as your baby is already 2 months old, stays for a week or two after birth, whether it is eczema? Yet to be examined, kindly see your baby's doctor if the rash is really bothersome, enjoy your baby

Yes: In fact this may be the first sign of eczema. I would suspect food allergy in this case.

DERMATITIS: Heat rash are usually in the body, fine, itchy  and flaky. Eczematoid rash are localized in any part of the body, cubital, popliteal, face and characterized by your description. It responds to moisturizer or steroid cream.

A qualified yes: If you meant atopic dermatitis then the answer is unusual. If you meant contact dermatitis , then the answer is often yes.  I suspect that you might have used neosporin (or equivalent) OTC ointment on the wound site and have developed a contact allergy to one of the ingredients (neomycin). Try topical HC cream and stop the antibiotic ointment. If problem persists , see your doctor.
