Post Nasal Drip: Greetings. PND results from an alteration of the normal process of mucus flow from the front to the back of you nose. It could be excess watery drainage, thick sticky drainage, or just too dry causing you to have an abnormal sensation in the post nasal region. All these conditions arise from different causes. How long it will bother you depends on how soon the cause is discovered and treated.

A long time: Post nasal drop is usually due to allergies, which can occur in certain seasons, especially spring postnatal drop can be present continuously in some persons. If it  is on only one side of your nose and you have a history of head trauma, please see your doctor. Topical stetoid sprays or no sedating  medications such as Zyrtec may help. In extreme cases, a consult with an allergist may be needed.

Your dr can: prescribe medications for you. Post nasal drip often lasts for weeks. Congestion – saline nose drops or netti pot. For anti-inflammatory effect &amp; mobilizing mucus- homemade chicken noodle soup.  Hydrate- lots of water/clear broth/ add honey &amp; a small amt. of lemon juice to Chamomile tea.

Globus: Sounds like something we call "globus" or the sensation of having a lump in the throat. It could be post-nasal drip or something else. Best to see an ENT and let them take a look with a laryngoscope.

Varies: Making the assumption that the sensation is actually the result of the pnd, it will depend upon the duration of the PND and the degree of inflammation it has produced.  The rate of resolution will also depend upon your health, underlying medical issues, etc.  If it lasts longer than two or three weeks suggest you get examined by an ENT doctor.  May not be due to the pnd.

Infection or allergy: a 50 year old male with post-nasal drip worsening in the last few moths, a bit of blood in mucus. Post-nasal drainage comes from nose and sinuses. When nasal mucosa irritated or dry, can cause minor bleeding which can then show up in mucus. Post-nasal drainage can be cause by an infection (like a viral cold) or rhinitis from allergies. OTC nasal steroid sprays should help. See PCP or allergist.

will i ihave post nasal drip after septoplasty? i'm guessing yes, since i've read you're not allowed to blow you nose. how bad will it be, and how long will it last?

The : The nose will be a bit runny for up to a few weeks after surgery. The internal skin lining will be a bit inflammed after surgery which results in more nose drainage. It's not usually very severe, but this can vary from person to person. You can use a salt water rinse to help flush the nose which helps a lot with the healing process.

i have a chest pain in the middle of my chest, which has been there for a couple of days. i don't have a post nasal drip and my head feels clear. it started right as it got very cold in cpt - and i had the same in jhb around this time last year?

Chest pain: Chest pain for 2 days without accompanying cough, sputum, wheeze, breathing symptoms could be due to rib cage inflammation, esophageal disorder or a cardiac problem. I recommend having a physician examine you and order any tests deemed advisable in order to make a diagnosis and advise you.

took allergy med41 month nothing what i do ? what is it?

See your doctor: or an ENT specialist for evaluation, it can be rhino-sinusitis (inflammation of nasal passages and sinuses) you may need prescription medications, meanwhile use saline nasal washes once or twice a day, good luck
