variable: No predictable rules with pulmonary embolism.  Sometimes the only symptom is a fast heart rate. If you are on birth control pills and having chest tightness + palpatations, you should consdier a pe and have the proper testing.

Not likely: A pulmonary embolism can feel just like a heart attack in many ways - chest pressure or pain, difficulty breathing or increased shortness of breath with mild exertion, often precipitated by a clot in the lower extremities.  A lot of things can cause palpitations, but a P.E. Is not the top of the list. I would recommend seeing your doctor - possibly getting an electrocardiogram.

Few days to week: Symptoms of pe are sudden-onset shortness of breath, rapid breathing, chest pain of a (worsened by breathing), cough and coughing up blood. More severe cases can include signs such as blue discoloration, usually of the lips and fingerslungs and into the left side of the heart and collapse.Pain will calm down when we control these symptomes.

The clot: In the embolic process ends up in the very small blood vessels in the lung adjacent to the air sacs where gases are exchanged.  Some of the clot ends up in the small airways and then is coughed up.  It should improve as the body stabilize with treatment of the pe.

: No. Pulmonary thrombi can kill instantly if large, multiple small one cause high blood pressure in lungs and heart failure. A thrombus/embolus gets resolved/organized in a matter of day and does not last "years".

Can't tell: If you mean surgery to open up the chest and remove the clots from the arteries, then hours. This is a big procedure. You should be discussing this with the Thoracic Surgeon who is going to do the procedure.

Yes: Depeding on how large your embolism was, recurrent chest pain,  and how much blood thinner they have you on, its best to get a recheck at the emergency room. Good luck.

Yes it's pisdible: You should be  re evaluated.  Call your doctor or go to the er.

Depends: Good question and need more detail on your case. Important to talk to your surgeon before surgery about this hypercoagulation issue. You may need consult with hematology to fully answer the question about duration of ac therapy.

Follow up: I would suggest a follow up visit. A CT scan may be indicated and additional testing ordered.
