Not enough data: Methotrexate has a half life of 15 hours. It should be totally gone from the blood fairly quickly but can remain in the liver longer. We do not have human studies to say how long that it.

10 weeks!: Methotrexate, itself, is virtually gone in several days. But more active metabolites, called Methotrexate polyglutamates, stay inside body tissue for 2&1/2 months. If you are on mtx for arthitis, or other rheumatology problem, you should wate that long before trying to conceive.

Methotrexate: Unless you have been treated for a type of cancer, methotrexate is used to cause a miscarriage or to treat an ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy in tubes).  If you were taking it for other than cancer, it is possible that even small doses can adversely affect a pregnancy.  See your healthcare provider for advice, and obtain serial ultrasounds to follow the course of the pregnancy.

Rapidly leaves: 1/2 life  depends on dose  3-10 hours with low dose  and 8-15 hours with high dose

We usually say it is out after  5  1/2 lives bt there are  tissue effects too - maybe 3 weeks

Excellent question: But one that cannot be answered as we don't know the condition for which you are receiving methotrexate. 2.5 mg is at the low end of doses for methotrexate. Have you discussed your concerns with the physician who prescribed this medication? If you have & would like a 2nd opinion see another doctor who can fully evaluate you and give a sensible answer. Everyone is entitled to a second opinion.

MTX is good.: If you feel well when you take Methotrexate and your labs are good there is no reason to worry.  You will not necessarily feel side effects of mtx.  Abnormalities usually show up in labs first.  Take your Folic Acid daily.

It’s one or theother: It would be very uncommon to “treat with methotrexate” after an “ectopic pregnancy surgery”.. Most early unruptured small ectopic pregnancies can be treated successfully with methotrexate alone. without surgery. When and if ectopic pregnancy surgery is successfully performed, there should be no need for methotrexate. “Trying again”may start once normal ovulatory menstrual cycles have returned.

hi, i'm on plasmaquine and methotrexate 7.5mg x 1 per week for arthritis.  i'm concerned that the methotrexate may weaken my immune system and make me more vulnerable to covid-19. would it not be safer to discontinue use untill the threat has passed?

: Legitimate concerns, your rheumatologist or current prescriber for above meds would be best to comment on options in the clinical context of your condition. Your known condition that has been treated with above meds is a threat, too.

Suppresses immune: Mtx is used to suppress the immune system . Doctors often use lab tests like RA factor or ANA levels to ascertain how active the disease is . Mtx can lower the numbers but is not necessary for them to be normal to be effective in controling your disease.

Safe levels: Safe levels are more important than normal levels. If your blood count drops too much, the dose of methotrexated will likely be reduced.
