Depends: Usually after 48 hrs most of the symptoms will be gone. The most common are pain with urination, pain with bowel movements and sometimes bllod in the urine. If you have a high fever or prolonged bleeding call your urologist immediately.

Besides, personal pain tolerance plays an important role in sensing the lingering discomfort. Technically, prostate biopsy is blind to visualiiize nerve &amp; vessel so rare damage to them

i am having a transperineal prostate biopsy. the directions indicate that i should take a fleet enema the day before the biopsy. i live alone and it may be difficult for me to administer an enema to myself..can the biopsy take place without the enema?

: Yes, enema needs to be done to clear up the rectum because the ultrasound probe has to be placed in the rectum for guiding the biopsy needle even with transperineal approach.

good afternoon doctors. my urologist wants me to do a fleet enema before a prostate biopsy. i live alone and am worried that i may not do the enema correctly. is there an oral medication i can take similar to a fleet enema like i did for colonoscopy?

: Not really. A fleets is designed to empty the last segment of your large bowel so the debris in not in the way of your procedure. Oral medications are not dependable for this. They are slow to work and incomplete when/if they do. I would look for a demonstration video online if you need to get some pointers on doing it. The fleets kit has written instructions.

No point: Prostate biopsy is 2c if u have prostate cancer or not. Finesteride is used for benign symptomatic prostatic enlargement. May well be an option if prostate biopsy is negative.

: The type of bowel preparation needed for the different procedures is that found by your treatment team to work best in a given situation. A Fleet Enema is quite effective for outlet level clean out. MiraLAX or Dulcolax would not be as effective in general and may take several days of use to be even partially helpful. Discuss this with your doc. If there are options they will know the best ones.
